What do these codes mean?

P0700 - Transmission Control System Malfunction
P1768 - Automatic Transaxle

Code 700 is in the engine computer. It just means there is a fault code that needs to be read in the transmission computer. That is done because the defect can put the transmission into "limp" mode which keeps it in second gear. That increases fuel consumption, which increases emissions. Anything that could adversely affect emissions must turn on the check engine light, and that is the job of the engine computer.
