Hi

Suddenly this morning my car decided only to run on gear 1 and gear 3 . It is skipping gear 2 and not going any further than gear 3. Also it is not running at all in reverse gear. I got this code P173B after running computer diagnostic. Not shifting

If anyone can please give some information about the fix would be really appreciated.

There really is no info here in the USA market for a 2011 Passat. So did some research online and found this link:

https://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?7680-0AM-DSG-Fault-codes-P173A-P173B-P173C-P173D-P173E-P173F

Looks like a magnetic clip may have fallen out of place. The link also has the repair guide you can open up in Adobe. Hope the link will help you out.

Hi,

Thanks for passing that information, but In that post he mentioned that they were repairing the hydraulics inside the unit and while doing that magnet clip must have fallen off.
But my car suddenly went into limp mode while I was driving.
I think I need to replace some travel sensor. I am taking this to workshop tomorrow morning.

I apologize I could not give you more information since we are limited on the information when it comes to different brands outside the USA. Most transmission faults are related to a hydraulic issue like low fluid level from a leak or an internal leak causing the pressure to drop so the sensors can only interpret what they see.

Please let us know what the repair shop finds when they do there diagnosis. That would help other visitors that come to the site and I am also curious as to what they find as well.
