My "Check Engine" and "Reduce Engine Power" lights are on. The scan tool gives me P1484 Cooling Fan wiring harness replacement is needed.

What is this error telling me? That my cooling fan is not working and therefore I risk overheating?

At idle in park, I can see my fan working. Also, when I take off from a standstill, I can hear the fan working.

I first received this code maybe 5000 miles ago. I cleared it and had no trouble since. Now I get the Check engine light within 50 miles of clearing it.

Is it possible that I'm getting a false code? Am I doing any damage by continuing to drive it?

Thanks

The P1484 error code for a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada indicates a problem with the Cooling Fan Speed Sensor Circuit. What happens is the cooling fan hall effects sensor goes out and gives you the code, the easiest way to fix it is to replace the cooling fan module. Here are the directions in the images below. Here are the cooling fan wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works. Clear the codes once you are done with the repair. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Can't this be done without draining the radiator? If the fan is working, what damage can be done by driving it?

It looks like the radiator fluid (coolant) will need to be drained yes, If the engine is not overheating then you should be okay except for the check engine light and the P1484 error code.

The printout from the auto parts store says to replace the cooling fan wiring harness. Is that different than the clutch itself?

You can give this a try but I would inspect the wiring harness for damage first to see if anything is obvious.
