Hello,

I'm getting these codes after I have replaced the MAF sensor. I haven't replaced the 02 sensors or catalytic converter since I got the car in 2014. If you do recommend a new catalytic converter, can you please share a link to which one would work best?

If you did not have these codes before I would replace the MAF sensor which sounds like you have a defective part. Can I ask which brand it is?

Code P1101 - Intake Air Flow System Performance
Code P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Here is the correct way to change out the sensor so we can be on the same page. Also, if the turbo is having an issue, it will cause an internal vacuum leak. FYI. Clear the codes once the repair is done and please get back to me. Check out the images (below).

Mass Airflow Sensor for: Chevy Cruze Limited Sonic Trax for: Buick Encore Verano 1.4L 1.6L 1.8L 2.0L 2.4L 2012-2019 Replacement OE# 245-1314 12671624 0280218419 0280218273 13432262 5S13839

Replaced MAF sensor with link above, it seems to be working. I then cleared these codes from my OBII scanner and now they're gone and there is no check engine light. I was told now I need to make some drive cycles so that the monitors can be set to Ready as I failed my emissions test here in TX a few days ago when I disconnected the negative battery then got it inspected which was ultimately a fail. I was advised to use some Cataclean solution when my gas tank is 1/4. Thanks for the help.

Okay, it sounds like you are on the right track. Do the drive cycles, if you have a scanner, it might have the monitor status so you can see when the monitors have been completed. Have a good weekend, please let me know. Also, if you drive the car easy the cat can do its job better FYI.

Engine light came back on when driving on freeway yesterday (P1101 - Manufacture other). When I clear this code it goes away however. After I have cleared the code the drive cycles on my OBII read:

Mill Status: OFF
Misfire Monitor: OK
Fuel System Mon: INC
Comp. Component: OK
Catalyst Mon: INC
HTD Catalyst: N/A
EVAP System Mon: N/A
Sec Air System: N/A
A/C Refrig Mon: N/A
Oxygen Sens Mon: INC
Oxygen sens Htr: INC
EGR System: INC

Also I have not yet put the cataclean solution in yet as im at half a tank of gas that's left.

I would check the air intake boot and connection to the throttle body, you can get this code if there is a leak between the MAF and the throttle body, also check the air filter as well. Let me know if you find something that might cause it so I can help confirm the issue.

I didn't see any leaks, connection was tight not lose at all. Sprayed some Johnsen's 4721 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner - 10 oz cleaner in the air filter box. Will be replacing air filter tomorrow as I never have on this car. It was super dirty. Will try this new filter and see what the cleaner does in next few days.

Yep, that is a good idea, here is a guide to help you:

Please go over this guide and get back to us. I think the air filter might fix it.

I changed air filter, MAF sensor and cleaned out the air filter compartment and doesn't seem to have fix. The engine light came on again. I'm unsure of where/how to get to the throttle body on my car and each video I seem to locate doesn't explain it very well. Would you have a guide, or would you be able to tell from these pics?

New air filter, MAF sensor with no leaks, I would start looking at the turbo, when they wear out, they can leak internally which can cause these codes as well, can you confirm you are still getting the same codes? Also, does the turbo seem to work good before all this started? Thanks for the images, they help.

These both came on the other night When I was driving on the highway for a bit. I've noticed when changing the MAF sensor I seem to have a little more power feels like. I really didn't have any issues with the turbo when I was aware if these codes. I do remember when driving on the highway before getting my oil changed 1-2-25 that my engine light was constantly appearing and when I mashed the throttle all the way down the RPM would get to the max range and the speed of the car was fine could get it up to 95.

I haven't tried using the Cataclean yet as I'm at half a tank of gas left. Want to get down to 1/4 before trying that. I spoke last night to a local mechanic mom and pop shop and maybe taking it to them next to see what they say but I'm trying to do everything I can to clean codes to pass emissions before shilling out more money.

Good idea, did you clear the codes after the repairs? If so, are they the same codes? I would clear the codes and drive it easy to see what happens.

Yes cleared them 2 days ago they both came back, and engine light returned so that is current status of now. Waiting for my gas tank to get to 1/4 so I can try that Cataclean and then re-fill gas tank and drive like a madman and see if that does anything to these codes.

Cataclean seemed to work for now. Engine light is no longer appearing, didn't clear any codes either. I had a local mechanic shop reach out to me a few weeks ago but wanted to try this first before going there or going to get another emissions test. Do you think it would pass an emissions test now? I still have P1101 code though.

I don't think it will pass with the P1101 code. I would make sure the air filter is clean, and you don't have any leaks between the MAF and the throttle body. Also, recheck the electrical connector to the MAF sensor and see if any pins are dirty or corroded. I have also seen that if the engine has too much blow by it can cause this code as well.
