Hi, today while I am driving check engine appeared. I plugged my own OBD2 sensor and code p0420 appeared. My question is, what this mean? Is the catalytic converter is defected? Or the sensors? What is the next step to detect exactly what is the defected part?
Thanks

Good morning,

The 420 indicates the precious metals in the converter are worn out and not processing the gases correctly. This is not a sensor issue, it is a failed catalytic convert.

You need to replace the catalytic converter.

Hi, I will change catalytic tomorrow.

But I want quote from a car site. “If they have failed, it is likely due to something else that caused it to fail. This is what a P0420 means””.
What I have to check in my car to prevent damage of new catalytic converter? No other codes Appeared except P0420.
Thanks

How many miles on the car? 100,000 to 150,000 is about the time they last.

Labor is 2 hours.

I loaded the walker ultra. It has a 5-year warranty for the light not coming back on. It runs under $300.00. The dealer catalytic converter is under $1,000.00.
