AutoZone code reader printout said Cam Position Sensor on Bank 2 sensor A is the problem. I can only see 1 sensor on bank 2. Driver side is bank 2, correct? Not sure if I'm seeing sensor A. A diagram would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Good evening,

You will need to go to the sensor and verify reference voltage to the sensor. Codes rarely identify bad parts, just failed systems. The code does not tell you the sensor is bad.

I attached the location of the sensor for you. It is at the back of the head.

Thanks for the fast response. I see the attachment shows "circuit short to ground". It so happens that I'm also getting heavy battery drain. If I don't disconnect battery it won't start after sitting for a several days. Likely this is related? Also, the code reader also picked up "P0349, circuit intermittent". I presume, since I ordered a new sensor already, it won't hurt to replace position 21 sensor? Do you know what voltage it should read? Should engine be running when reading voltage or off, or key to on? Thanks again.

You should have 5 volts at the sensor.

Check the voltage with key on, engine off.

Hey Roy. Well your diagram showed me that I was seeing sensor 22. Sensor 21 is to the right and pretty buried in there. There's 2 hard lines running so close to the bolt head that I couldn't get a ratchet and socket with an 18" long pipe on it from underneath. Maybe remove the wheel well cover and try a wrench in the end of the pipe? That even looks like it will be tough. And even then, if I get the bolt out I'm concerned about getting in there to disconnect connector and pulling out the sensor. There's so little room between engine and firewall and 2 hard lines. I don't see any way to get voltmeter probe up there to read voltage either. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

Remove the connector from the sensor now and bring the connector up so you can check the voltage. No need to remove the sensor to check the voltage.

Not confident I can reach in there to disconnect it. I'll give it a try and get back to you tomorrow. Really do appreciate all the help man.

Hey Roy, I think I found the problem. Wires going to sensor are cut through (see attached photo, it loaded upside down). You can see the cut wires to right of green tape if you zoom. That's the wires going to sensor. There's barely 3/4" coming out of harness (they're barely visible if you look closely). I can't see any way to disconnect from sensor. With a lot of patience maybe I could splice 2 wires to the wires from connector and run them independently up to the gang connector but I have no idea which pins the 2 wires would be. I think it's the gang connector third from left looking from front of truck. Your thoughts? Thanks, Dan

The wires should all be color coded so you cannot mix them up.

It is going to be tough to get to them.

You can thank Ford engineers for that one, LOL.

Thanks man. I just pulled off middle and 3rd connector and see they are all different colors. So now I guess I'll see if this old man's body can lay across and contort on top of this engine, then trim back these wires and splice in. If I was only 40 years younger and had 6 foot long arms. Lol! Thanks again bud. You're the best. Plan to tackle this next week. I'll let you know. Have great holiday.

Roy, drum roll please. Sound the trumpets! Success! Somehow I was able to solder the two broken wires. As soon as I got out of my driveway and on the road I could tell. Drove for 10 miles, ran great. Shut off engine, started back up in 5 minutes, no engine light. It's a wrap bud. I guess a mouse (or some kind of critter) was hungry. Don't know what else could have done it. Thanks so much for your help. Couldn't have done it without you. Yer the man! Time for a beer!
