Code P0340?

My engine light came on and showed the P0340. The following morning the code cleared itself the following morning, I still replaced the camshaft position sensors, it started up after a few tries and then the following day it would not start. Once I was able to get it started the engine light came back on again, and it is still the P0340 code. All of the wiring harnesses looked good, but I did not test them as I did not have a multimeter available. Is that likely the cause of the engine light coming back on or is there something else I am missing? Thanks for your help!

Hi,

The code is specific to the camshaft position sensor. Keep in mind, a worn starter (yes starter) or a weak battery can cause this code. Is the battery in good condition or have you noticed the starter sounding weak?

If not, did you replace both sensors or only one? Also, we do need a voltmeter or multimeter to determine if it is a wiring issue. If you have a live data scan tool, that could help as well.

What I need you to do is this. Key off. Disconnect the CMP sensor connector. Turn the key to the run position, engine off. Check pin 2 for voltage. You should have approximately 5v. Try this and let me know what you find. See pic below
