My car was having an issue where the gas pedal occasionally would be unresponsive or mostly unresponsive. It reminded me of a problem I had with a previous vehicle that had a clogged fuel filter. So, I decided to replace the fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel strainer. I figured since I was opening it up, I might as well replace all three since it wasn't that expensive to do so. I suspected that was definitely my issue. There was a lot of rust in the tank and the filter and strainer were pretty dirty. The rust makes sense because I had previously replaced the fuel filler neck for being completely rusted through. The car had trouble starting and the P0304 code showed up the first time starting the car after replacing those three components. I chalked it up to there being basically no gas in the system because I had to wipe the tank clean. I erased the code and had zero drivability or starting issues the next 4 days. After that though, now it has trouble starting each time and the P0304 code is back. It still drives fine. Only issue is on start up. I have a hard time believing it's a coincidence that it happened right after I replaced those components, so what might I have done wrong? I can't think of anything. Replacing them was pretty straight forward.

Hello,

The code P0304 is a misfire code for the cylinder number 4.
This code can get triggered due to a faulty spark plug, improper fuel pressure, vacuum hose issue, bad fuel injector, faulty coolant temperature sensor, it can also be due to the ECM.

I have attached the troubleshooting guide for the code P0304 below. Follow those steps as it can help you determine the issue.

Let me know what you find or if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Thanks for that info. Looks like diagnosing that is going to be a bit above my skill level.
