It had this code and the other one which has to do with catalyst efficiency that is pretty much on most cars nowadays. When I delete them and start the code this p0172 comes back alone pretty much within 3 seconds of starting. Where should I look?

A P0172 code on a 2010 Volvo XC60 indicates that the engine control module (ECM) has detected that the fuel mixture is too rich on Bank 1.

I have seen the engine coolant sensor cause this issue or a leaky fuel injector, I would remove the spark plugs to see if one of them is dark, this will be the cylinder with the bad fuel injector.

What reading does the scanner say is the temperature of the coolant sensor? Here is the location in case it is way off.

This guide can help as well:

Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

One picture show what looks like a power steering reservoir. Do you mean it's in the coolant reservoir?

Also, there is no idling issue or a misfire or an injector code.

That's a good sign it is not an injector, it looks like the coolant sensor is behind the power steering reservoir.

I'll check it. I have a feeling this a PCV issue, but I will see what the scanner says about the temperature on start.

Went to check the pcv which is on top of the motor, found the small hose that goes from it to the intake long plastic tube off, it slipped off. Changed the clamp and it's all good now.
