Check engine light goes on for a couple days then off for couple days. No engine performance change. If I knew where camshaft and/or crankshaft sensors are located I could possibly change them. Can you tell me where they are located? Thanks!

Good afternoon.

The code is about the exhaust cam sensor coorelation with the crank sensor is not correct. This is not an indication of a failed part. It is a mechanical issue.

It could be dirt in the oil causing the VVT to not work or be stuck in one position.

It could be a timing chain but I doubt it as there would be more codes.

Have you tried changing the oil and filter?

Roy

* Inspect the engine for any recent engine mechanical repairs. An incorrectly installed camshaft, camshaft actuator, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, or timing chain can cause this DTC to set.
* An actuator that is in the full advance or retard position can cause this DTC to set.
* The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. Or, the crankshaft reluctor wheel has moved and is no longer referenced to top dead center (TDC).
* Observe the scan tool CMP Desired, Actual, and Angle Variance parameters before a DTC sets. This may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes, at last oil change (yes I have had oil changes every 5,000 miles without fail). The shop did a clean out of oil system and ran some sort of cleaner through it. I need decide on next steps I should take. Any thoughts?

Okay, if that is the case it may be the VVT solenoid and/or the valve causing the issue.

You will need an advanced scan tool that you can activate it to see if it changes the timing as requested.

Do you have a scan tool?
