I have a P0013: Exhaust “B” Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit/Open (Bank 1) code error on my truck listed above. We have tried oil changes to see if the issue goes away but it has not. How much can I roughly expect to pay to remove/replace both banks of actuators (since I figure it best to replace both while they are in there, since I believe there are 2 banks)? I can provide the VIN if this is helpful. I just want to make sure the estimate I receive is not overly inflated. Thank you.

Sure, yep, these actuators have problems, but Ford does make an updated unit which I would get. Here is how the job is done and the approximate cost. Remember that oil, gaskets coolant etc, are not included. Yes, there are two banks.

23 - Exhaust FL3Z6C525A - $176.67
23 - Intake FR3Z6256B - $183.33

Left Bank 8.4 HRS@ shop rate
Right Bank 8.0 HRS@ shop rate
Both Banks 8.5 HRS@ shop rate

You might want to think about doing the guides, tensioner and chains as well. The diagrams below feature the timing marks as well. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.

Ken,

I took my truck to a repair shop, and they were saying I should replace the chains, timing on both sides, to include the water pump and seals, etc. And estimated it as a 20.5-hour job. Does all this other need or should be replaced as you kind of alluded to its the jump from 8.5-hours to 20.5-hours that threw me off, thoughts? Thank you

Does this engine have 75,000 on it? If so, they last a lot longer than that, I am surprised the actuators are out, were the oil changes kept up on the engine?

Yes, I bought it used in Dec of 2017 with 16,000 miles on it. It currently has about 76,000 miles on it. And yes, oil changes have been done every 3,000 miles with synthetic since I have owned the truck. I recently did 3 x oil changes every 1,000 miles to see if that would remove the error code on suggestions of two mechanics, but it comes back almost immediately. The location that estimated 20.5 hours also confirmed the error code and also recommended changing the oil multiple times to see if this clears it with no luck. So, I figured I’d just bite the bullet and get it fixed but the number of hours for the repair caught me off guard.
