P0010 code and check engine light

Hey, I have recently had the P0010 code pop up on my car. I cleared it once and it came back up. What is my best way to solve this issue? Oil change, part replacement, if so which? Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon.

This is a code for the cam timing actuator.

Below is a description for you to view and more information as well.

Just changing the oil would not be enough if the valve is clogged with debris. The entire oil system must be flushed to get rid of the debris and hopefully, it will start to work again.

General Description

The CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) system is installed to the chain sprocket of the exhaust camshaft. There is no variation in valve timing of the exhaust cam because the exhaust camshaft is driven by the timing belt. The timing of the intake cam is varied by the relative operation the CVVT vane to the housing. This system helps the engine decrease exhaust gases and increase engine power and fuel economy by changing the valve open/close timing of the intake camshaft.

I would start by flushing the oil system. It may have sludge in the valve.

Use a product called sea foam for the oil. Add it to the oil and let the engine run for about one hour. Then change the oil/filter. Then change the control valve, clear the code and see if it comes back.

Okay. So change the oil control valve or the variable valve camshaft position actuator solenoid? Or are they the same really?

The control valve is part of the solenoid.
