Code P0420, overheating or 02 sensor, catalytic converter

Check engine light came on then hot temperature light. Cooled down quick. Advance Auto checked came up p0420 catalytic converter below threshold. Read online overheating will cause that code bad fuel air mixture. If it overheat you have coolant heat sensor, fan switch sensor, thermostat. What else or which one to check first? Has not got hot since been cold about 35 degree. Pat

Hello,

I would check the water pump as well to make sure it was working properly as well. When a water pump goes bad the bearing usually gets worn out. There is usually a weep hole on the bottom of the water pump so the coolant can leak out of it to keep it from making it to the bearing and causing it to seize up entirely. Please check underneath the water pump to see if it's leaking coolant and report back with what you find out. Also here is a generic guide explaining things a little better below:
