Hello, I am having an overheating with my vehicle. The water pump, radiator, thermostat and temperature sensor have been replaced.
I have gotten it flushed, tested and no leaks. It was overheating at first but once I got things fixed it stopped for like 6 months. Then I got it tested no leaks and then flushed. Started working normal again for about 2 months. Now here we are again and it wont stop overheating at all. At first only overheating at idle and I could press in gas and it would stop. Now I cannot even make it down the road it instantly overheats. I can cut it off and instantly able to crank back up. I know a car doesn't overheat in seconds literally. Please need help.

Good morning,

Sounds like you had a system full of dirt and debris if you had to flush it so many times.

My concern is this. From all the overheating, I am concerned the head gasket may have been damaged leaking compression into the cooling system. That would account for the instant overheating.

Did anyone check and see if the fan was working correctly?

It has only been flushed once I worded that part wrong. No one has checked the fan and I do have a concern about that. Also I am starting to think the fan is not working properly; it stays on to long after I turn off the car. It is very loud! But as soon as I turn the ignition key over once it stops! Should I get it replaced?

It needs to be tested but that has nothing to do with the overheating instantly. I am afraid you have damaged the head gasket.

I attached some charts to follow for the overheating. Once it is determined the failure and repaired, then yes, replace the fan.

Cooling Fan Motor Replacement - Electric

Removal Procedure

imageOpen In New TabZoom/Print

1. Remove the cooling fan and shroud from the vehicle.

2. Important: The fan and motor assembly is a balanced assembly. Be sure to mark the relationship of the fan to the motor shaft to ensure the balance is maintained.

Place a scribe mark (3) on the fan (2) hub and the motor shaft (1).

3. Remove the fan retaining clip (1) from the motor shaft (2).
4. Discard fan retaining clip (1).

One last thing. I have been making little rips down the street and when the car gauge goes all the way to red I am able to still drive on it. While the temperature gauge is on red and it never shuts off unless I turn it off. Never steams under hood it doesn't do anything. What does that mean? Is it safe to make small trips or should I not drive at all?

If the engine is overheating I would not drive it. Can you start the engine and turn on the AC and then wait 2 minutes to see if the fans are running please? Also after you have driven it and let it sit over night when you remove the coolant reservoir cap and radiator cap in the coolant low? If the radiator is low and the res full and could have a blown head gasket. Please go over the guide in the post above. Please let me know, we want to get this fixed for you.
