What should my idle be when cold? My idle is high 1900 rpm if I adjust it correctly will that stop my car from overheating?

No, high idle should not lead to an overheat. It sounds more like you have a vacuum leak that is causing the high idle. Check for cracked/broken vacuum lines first. If you do not find any clean the IAC valve and the throttle body.
