I think my water pump is bad is there any thing I can do to make it run a little longer until I can afford to change it?

Hello,

You car can overheat for various reasons.
Just so cover everything, first make sure you have correct amount of coolant in the reservoir and you are not leaking out.

If the coolant level is good and its still overheating.
It could be for a stuck closed thermostat or a clogged radiator or hose. Another possibility is the radiator fans not working. Which can be due to bad fan motor or a bad relay.
