Overheating

i have a 2000 saturn sl2, my car appears to be getting too hot as when i drive it even for as short as 30 minutes, my coolant cap pops n all my coolant overflows out. My temp gauge reada less than 1/4 the whole time. What could be causing this?

You ether have a bad cap or coolant temp sensor alsoinspect the inside of the connector if the terminails are blue or green instead of silver you will need a new connector.
