My wife's car has been over heating, we had the head gasket done and the radiator, as well as the head skimmed. Also flushed and added new coolant. We thought that it was fine but when she was out in it today for fifteen minutes it over heated the coolant seems to be boiling in the bottle. Is it worth us taking it to a garage or does it sound as if the cylinder head has gone? It has an 2006 plate but very low mileage! She seems to recall a squeaking noise which we assumed was the fan belt? And the air con is not working at all. Any advice greatly appreciated. The car is not worth more than £800 so we do not want to waste money on attempting to fix in a garage if it sounds bad.
Many thanks.

Hello Paul,

It is definitely worth taking it back tot he garage you had the work done, I am wondering if they missed a cracked head. When the engine is cols check the level of coolant in the radiator. If it is full do a chemical check on it to see if there is exhaust gases present in the cooling system confirming the head or gasket failure.

Here is a guide to help you get started.

Please let us know what you find ;)
