Problem with loss of cooling fluids requiring frequent checking and adding water.

No smoke, no leak, no tailpipe dripping H2O.
I quit adding 50/50 mix until cause is determined.

Not so long ago trans was serviced and upon checking found low on trans fluid. Started noticing minor problems with shifting, but did not expect levels low, but were. Quite low actually. I suspect the proper amount of fluid had not been added during the transmission service

Since the transmission cooling mechanism runs through radiator in the 4.6 Northstar. Could an overheated transmission cause the overheating by boiling away the mainly water coolant (212 boiling point), building pressure which eventually exits through the radiator cap due to pressure buildup?

Good afternoon.

No to the transmission. If that was the case, the transmission fluid would be dark and smell. It will not boil the coolant.

I would start by have a leak down test done on each cylinder to see if you have a leaking head gasket. It may not be leaking enough to produce smoke or mixing with the oil.
