overheating

i had a water leak in the water pump so i changed that along with the thermostat. thought that was the problem but i was wrong. went for a ride around the corner from the house and it went from cold to very hot in a matter of a block. PLEASE help !!!!!!!

Did you burp the air out of the system? If there's air under the thermostat, it will not open to allow coolant to flow to the radiator. They have to be hit with hot liquid to open.

Look for a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing. If there isn't one, look for a sensor or threaded plug that can be removed. If you have to remove a sensor, don't have the ignition switch on when it is unplugged to avoid setting a false diagnostic fault code.
