My air conditioning was not working and I fixed it. Now the car overheats at idle. Cools off immediately once I press on accelerator (in gear or neutral).

Hello my name is Dave.

First thing we need to check is the coolant level, if the level is low it will have the systems you have described. The other thing we need to check is if the radiator fans are coming on when you turn on the A/C. If you could check these 2 things and let us know the results we can help you pinpoint the problem. We look forward to hearing back from you with the results and thank you for using 2CarPros!

I filled up the radiator with about half a jug of coolant and so far so good. I let it idle for just a couple minutes and the temperature didn’t rise. I will be able to check again tomorrow.

Yes. When I turned on the AC the cooling fans turned on. Then shut off AC and the cooling fans turned off.

Perfect. Does the A/C blow cold? This is the normal operation of the fans, one can come on at a time.
