alternator overcharging?

247,000 MILES • 3.8L • V8 • 4WD • AUTOMATIC

New battery and alternator and it's still showing on the dash 16 volts. Don't over 16 but does drop to 15.4 but goes right back to 16. Checked all cables look absolutely fine to me.

It could be the gauge but to be sure let's check the voltage at the battery when the engine is running.
