Orange wrench light came on the dash for about 5 seconds. After that the transmission would not go below 3rd gear and no higher than 5th. Turned truck off and restarted and issue went away. That happened two days in a row. Thanks

Hi,

What you described sounds like the vehicle went into what is called limp mode. This happens if the computer recognizes a fault in different items.

The reason it is called limp mode is just that. It is designed to allow you to limp to safety.

I have a question, has the light come back on, or have you continued to have the same issues? If so, I recommend having the can-bus scanned.

CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different computers/modules on the truck communicate via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve diagnostic trouble codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link that explains how it is done:

Let me know if this helps, what you find, or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

That is quite a list. LOL I have a feeling the problem is the output speed sensor. Actually, it could be the sensor, or a wiring issue related to the circuit.

When I went to code P0722, it directs me to follow the diagnostics related to a P0720.

Let me know if you are comfortable performing this.

Take care,

joe

Dealership tells me it is a connector part # Foal3z-7g276-d. They call it a lead frame but the description on the paperwork has output shaft speed sensor. Same as you told me. Problem is there is a national back order on the part. Can’t get one until March. Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

Did they give you any ideas as to when the part would be available? March is hard to believe. Also, I believe you can purchase this part from remanufacturers. Did you try typing in the part number to see if you can get one online?

Let me know.

I tried online and found several but when I tried to order the message said back ordered. The only one I could find was eBay and it delivers in March. The dealership said they have 5 vehicles waiting on this same part. Go figure.
