Let me start from the beginning. First thing we keep having to replace the ipr like every 4-6 months in our truck. This last time we had issues with it was not starting. My husband used starting fluid on it or something and it would start. Then we went grocery shopping and when we came out and tried starting truck using starting fluid, it started and idled. As soon as he pressed the gas pedal it died. We did this a few more times and we sat and waited for his son. When he got there about 10 minutes, they messed around under the hood trying to start it, it started, and we drove it home. A week later we are driving, and we slow down to talk to someone we know and when we go to take off again it shuts off as soon as he touches the gas pedal. We got a friend to pull us home.

We replace the ipr and it starts on its own but it’s idle sounds rough like I can’t even explain it. Never heard a vehicle sound this way. It almost sounded like it was trying to shut off.

It now is throwing all kinds of codes. Seems like it is throwing every sensor code or module code there is. I honestly think there is a short somewhere.

Oh yeah, in the mornings it will start on its own, no problem, but from then on it needs to have assistance.

Hopefully I haven’t forgotten anything.

Hi,

What you described sounds like it could be related to fuel pressure or exhaust gas getting into the fuel system.

Do me a favor. Take a look through the technical service bulletin below and let me know if you are comfortable performing the tests. This TSB is related to a few different issues, but no start is included.

Also, let me know what codes you are getting. Maybe I'll be able to find a correlation between them leading to the fault.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

P0700
P2284
P0284
P0463

Those are the codes. I'm not sure about running the test.

Hi,

Okay, here we go.

The p0700 is a generic transmission (non-specific). Basically, it indicates the transmission control module has recognized a fault and the diagnostic trouble code is stored in the powertrain control module.

The P0284 is related to the fuel level sensor

P2284 is related to the Injector control pressure sensor which can be causing issues with the IPR.

The P0284 is a contribution balance issue with cylinder 8. This shouldn't cause the IPR to fail but may cause drivability issues.

If I had this vehicle in my shop, I would start with injector control pressure sensor testing. Although the sensor is controlled by the IPR, I suspect it may be the cause of the IPR failure and the issues with the contribution balance.

I attached diagnostics below. Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

I will watch for your reply.

Take care,

Joe
