Thank you for a brilliant site.
Car burns about a litre of oil every 2000 kilometres.
Have an error code 0171.
Idles high on start up otherwise runs fine.
Been going on a while, do not want to inflict
any more on the car.
I am reasonably handy and have done a lot of research, (and looking).
Having a good mechanic doing a diagnostic tonight. (Has just cancelled till next week).
Don't expect an answer from you guys based on above little information.
Really write to say your site, your site is a Godsend.
To think you give such help that I will use,
for free is amazing.
After having a very bad experience with work
a mechanic lately.
Will report back if possible.
Thank you again.

IF YOU HAVE HIGH MILEAGE, YOU MAY BE BURNING THE OIL DUE TO CYLINDER/ RING WEAR.

INSURE YOU ARE NOT LEAKING IT OUT AT A GASKET OR COMPONENT (SUCH AS AN OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT)

THIS LINK MIGHT AID YOU IN RIDDING YOUR VEHICLE OF THE PO171 CODE, IT DOES GIVE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

A litre of oil isn't bad for an aged car the 171 code may be low fuel pressure. However this car is not sold in U.S. So we have no info on it.

At that rate of oil consumption I would be looking at a ring problem, that much oil being burnt will start to foul a spark plug so you should see grey ash deposits on the electrode, also a wet and dry compression test will be a good tool to see how the rings are performing and a leak down test will also give you a good indication of ring condition as well.
