2007 Opel Astra Broken Gear Box Shaft

Hi, my gear box shaft broke recently. Broken spider gear shaft, damaged gear box casting, broken crown wheel and pinion as well as broken spider gears.

I dont abuse the car or wheel spin. This happened on a Sunday morning driving normally.

WHat could cause this failure?

I would guess at a defective part during manufacture ... but proving this is going to be difficult !!
