Once in a while the car will start but the gas peddle doesn't rev the engine and putting it in gear does nothing. The transmission handle will be in the "D" or drive position but does not engage but just sits there. About a month ago AAA changed the battery for free and that seemed to solve the problem but then it happened again. But this time when I turned the key off and restarted the engine everything worked fine again. I am concerned about this happening at an inopportune moment and getting stuck out in nowhere. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention, when the most recent incident occurred, the orange-colored engine check light did show up on the panel where the speedometer readout is located. But when I restarted the engine, all those symptoms disappeared and all appeared normal again.

Scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge first. However due to age and mileage you may have a trans problem as well but check fluid there too. Shold be 31-37 psi w/vacuum and 38-44 w/o at idle. However you will need an adapter and jumper wire to check. Last pic is where you use jumper wire to read codes. Then go to chart of OBD1 on our how to repair site.
