I put my vehicle in drive & when I pulled int the parking space to park I could not shift to park. The light stayed on drive and the geer shift moved freely up and down instead of locking into place. What do you think caused that & how would you fix it?

Sounds like your shift cable broke loose.Check the shift cable on the transmission and see if it's still attached. If it is then it probably came loose on the steering column.
