I have a 1997 Olds Regency, 75,000 miles, automatic transmission, 3.8 liter engine, 6 cylinders. It makes a noise much like a squeeky fan belt. This noise begins to occur once the engine has warmed up, maybe 10-15 minutes after running. The sound is not always constant but somewhat intermittent. It does not cease when the AC is turned off. The noise seems to be on the side of the engine where the fan belt is. It is not overheating according to the instruments. The car runs fine and there is no 'check engine' light on. We have taken it to garage several times. It is not the fan belt. The mechanic took it off and it still makes noise. It is not the alternator since he replaced it and the noise continues. We have tried belt dressing and no help there. All the fluid levels are OK. I appreciate any help that can be given! :D

3.8's had problems with the harmonic balancer, check to see if it is coming apart. Otherwise if the noise is in front of engine and makes it with belt off, might need some exploratory surgery to find the problem
