I have a 1993 Olds '88, 111,000 miles, V-6 engine. For the past 20,000 miles or more, I've had this problem: When the gas tank gets down about 2/3--that is, when it takes about 13 gallons to fill it up--when I come to a stop, the car bucks, shudders, and chokes down. It restarts immediately, and if I remember to slip it out of gear and give it some gas as I come to a stop, I can prevent it.
Soon as I gas up, the problem disappears. A year ago, I had a new gas tank put in, but that didn't solve the problem. Lately, I have the feeling it's happening earlier in the gas-tank-emptying process. Can this be a weak fuel pump? Or, what else? No other problems, gets 30 mpg on the road.
