Hello. New to site and looks great. Recently purchased a 1996 Cutlass Supreme 3100 (3.1) V6 with 131000 miles. Service Engine Soon light came on after 60 miles or so of driving. Using my code scanner I checked and and got two codes both P0441. I reset the codes and 60 miles later it came back. After looking around in the engine compartment I found a small hose had fallen of a round plastic piece at the rear of the compartment. The hose runs up to the front of the engine and is connected to something under the intake. Went ahead and reset the codes again. About 250 miles later the same p0441 code came up. Never had any real emmisions control issues and such with any of my cars in the past other than a cat or muffler so this is kinda new to me. Any suggestions on where to start looking are greatly appriciated. Thanks.

I would start by taking a look at that purge solenoid. It should have two lines running to it. One wil be from a vacumm sorce and the other will be for the evaporative system. If you look at the purge solenoid you will see on one of the nipples coming off of it will be marked with VAC make sure that someone didn't reverse the two lines going to it. Also make sure that the vacumm line goiing to it has vacumm and that it is not broken.

Awesome thanks for the quick response. I looked at the purge solenoid and inspected all conectioons and lines. Three lines are attached. One on either side, both appear to be solid and good connections. There is another line smaller underneath by the plug. I traced this line about 7 inches and found it cut and what appears to be melted closed. My guess is it hit a part of the motor that melted it. Unable to find where this line should go. I will have to locate a diagram somewhere to find where this line should run. Thanks again for the super fast response!

Yes the diagram does help thank you again! Number two in the picture has a third hose thats not shown in the diagram. This hose comes out where the wires are connected. The hose was melted shut from not being properly secured and hitting the exhaust manifold. I tracked down the other side of this hose and spliced it together using some rubber hose. The other end of the hose runs to the front of the vehicle under the battery. Unfortunatly the battery is not easily removed in this car. I stuck my hand under and it feels secure to whatever it connects to. Any ideas on what this may be? I found the same diagram under the hood (covered in grease) and it too does not show this hose. Thanks again soooo much for you time and help.
