My toque converter seems to ingage to soon when shifting through gears and it won't release when coming to a stop until the very end when the engine is about to die. I have discussed thsi problem with a few other people and they think it is something other then the torque converter causing the problem. But no one know what it might be.
It shift through all the gears and will down shift as well but it will not completly release unless you either manualy shift into 1st gear or shift into nutral or come to a complete stop at wich time the engine start shaking violently until the converter releases.

Sounds like the torque convertor clutch lockup is not releasing.
There is an electric solenoid that locks the convertor up under certian conditions (closed loop, at a certain speed, brake pedal released, etc).

There should be a square 4 prong connector that connects to the trans. This activtes the lockup (the ECM controls it).

You can try disconnecting the TCC connection, but it will probably have to be replaced. On most cars you do not have to remove the trans. To replace it.
