I just purchased this car cheap. It needed brake work but otherwise seemed to run fine. I changed the air filter and plugs. I noticed a miss or hesitation upon acceleration otherwise it was fine. Then it spit and sputtered on the highway a couple of times and returned to normal. But the last time I drove it it died on the highway, just lost all power and finally stalled. I could not get it to restart but my brother in law happened by he unplugged the air flow sensor pushed the pedal to the floor and it started right up then plugged the sensor back in. I got it home(I won't drive it into town) it starts fine I rev it up and its ok but if I hold the gas about halfway it revs dies down revs back up and so. No lights came on or come when these things happen.

Is the check engine ligt on when it runs? If so have it scanned, there will be a code for the MAF since you unplugged it and ran it, but look for other codes. Some of those cars had rev limiters, sounds like your has one that is why it wont free rev

No check engine light comes on has ever came on. When it stalled out on the highway, it acted like it was running out of gas. Someone suggested it might be fuel pressure regulator. Where would the rev limiter be located?

Use a fuel pressure gauge to verify the pump is good. The regulator wont make it die while driving, at least not that I have ever seen. The rev limiter is made into the PCM, not removeable and not noticable when in gear, just park and neutral. Next time it dies, do a spark check then a fuel pressure check to see what is missing thta made it die
