I own a 1993 oldsmobile cruiser"S" Wagaon. The problem I have occurs when the outside temp is 80 deg or higher and I have been driving for 30-40 minutes. The engine appears to have a miss and sputters and then stalls when I slow down. The engine will start immediately after each time this occurs. I can rev the engine to 3000 plus RPM without any hesitation. However the engine will stall when placed in gear. If I allow the car to cool for 20-30 minutes I can drive the car for another 10-20 miles before it happens again. I have changed the; fuel filter, fuel back pressure regulator, ECM, plugs, wires, a "suspect" bad coil, air filter, various vacuum hoses, engine temp sensor cleaned the MAF sensor. I am leaning towards a transmission problem possible a speed sensor.

Hi there,

First thing to know is that if you loose enough coolant and the temp sender is not immersed in water it wont work and you will not get a high temp reading. Secondly you may just have a blown head gasket. I would try and get a second opinion of the engine and look for a new mechanic.
