1986 Other Oldsmobile Models 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic ????? miles

Im getting around 6mpg with my 1986 Olds Calais Supreme. it has the 2.5L TechIV(iron duke) 4 banger engine. READS 73.000MILES but i think thats wrong. What can be causing this? it needs a new muffler but i didt think that would do that much to mpg. please help!!!

is your car blowing black s,oke out tail pipe? most likely the cause is a bad o2 sensor.
