My local GM tech has advised me that my air compressor is going. It only squeals on start up for about a minute. What happens if I decide NOT to fix it and it stops working. His answer was something like well then the belt will blow up. Well 1000.00 dollars for a 8 year old car seems a bit much. What can I do to run the car with no air.

If it has a seperate belt either you remove it or just cut it off. Run by serpentine belt get a belt without AC
