Engine Performance problem
1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue 6 cyl Automatic 67,250 miles

My car passed inspection on 2/28/09 and also had an old change then. Last week I took it to a dealership for the 67,500 mile checkup. Was told I had major oil leak neededPCV valve which was fine during my Feb inspection also needed front control arm bushings and intemediate steering shaft.
1. I've never had oil leaks under my car.
2. No problems staring car.
3 No oil smells. The mechanic couldn't show me a hole nor did he use the dip stick to show if & how much oil I had lost. I am a single 70 yr. Old woman and everyone says I was taken for a ride. It costs $1606.90 just for the oil fix. I didn't have the other 2 items fixed. Is it possible all this could happenwithin 2 months?
Thanks for your help & advice.

Anything is possible, but this is unlikely. If you never saw oil under the car, it couldn't have been too big of an oil leak. As far as the PCV, that wouldn't have caused a leak. The control arm bushings should have been spotted during the inspection.

Let me know if you have other questions. Also, if you have the slip from the repairs, let me know what was done regarding the oil leak.

Joe you asked me to forward the bill to you. I should mention that the car was also getting its 67,500 mile check up. Following are the items they replaced and the cost.

Replaced upper & lower intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs & wires, PCV valve.
Thermostat, transmission temp. Sensor, engine oil & filter. Also manifold. The cost was $1,606.90

They also said I needed Front Lower Control Arm Bushings or the car would not pass inspection for $384.22. I don't need the car inspection till next February and it passed this Feb. So I'll get a second opinion before next Feb.

Also an Intermediate steering shaft for $255.39. I don't hear any bumping noises on that.
Joe I really appreciate you answering me. I'm 70 yrs old with no family and very little social security. By the way The manager called and said he would give me a credit of $250.00 towards having the lower control arm bushings done. Friends told me he should have just credited my Visa card.

Cordially,

The problem was coming from the intake gasket. However, I would think you would have noticed oil on the driveway. Did you ever see any?
