I have a 1998 Olds. Intrigue w/ 3800 engine. Its been running rough off and on for months. It will run fine for a week or so, then suddenley it will start missing and cutting out and even backfiring at times. It dies when hard braking and stopping. Then one day my wife went to start it and boom! The upper intake exploded. I replaced the intake and it runs the same. Ive replaced the coil packs and plug wires also. It has a trouble code for an o2 censor, but I dont think that would cause this would it? Any help would be very appriciated

You most likely have a leaking fuel pressure regulator.

The regulator has a small rubber diaphram on the inside that sometimes leaks. This will pull fuel directly into your intake manifold. And in severe cases, it will light off. (Your BOOM)

The reason your O2 sensor is sending a code is because it's reading a rich fuel mixture that your computer can't compensate for. And you're probably fouling your spark plugs as well.

This is a $20 part, and it's easy to replace if you are so inclined.

If I've helped you, please vote for me, as I depend on this to pay my bills. Thanx, Ernest.
