Transmission problem
1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 100k miles

Recently my car has been unable to get into higher gears. If I put the car in Park, Reverse, Neutral, 1st, or 2nd, it runs accordingly. If I put it in Drive or Overdrive, it will start off driving normally, but when it disengages the first gear, it doesn't go any higher. Any pressure on the gas just causes it to rev as if in neutral. When the car slows to about 5 mph, it goes back to 1st gear.

I've already flushed the transmission and replaced the filter as well.

Hi
Your car has no shift solenoids so most likely it has worn clutches and/or seal failure. Need to have pressure test done at a trans shop to tell what failed..
I think your looking at rebuild or replacement. If line and governor pressures good then a valve body repair may get you going.
Hope this helps
Thanks for donate
