1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Noise coming from front passenger

Although the noise is coming from the front passenger side strut assembly, the struts aren't the problem. What started as a soft hum turned into a loud grinding sound. The car is not in motion. When I start the car it goes away. If I pull on the wire harness on the strut assembly leading to the far left side of the fire wall it goes away. So I just unplugged it. Can somebody help me. The noise is getting really embarrassing.
