1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass fuel gauge

Disconnected positive battery terminal and replaced Starter reconnected positive battery terminal now the gas gauge is below the needle indicating empty what is that it reads backwards I guess. Any ideas on how to fix this?

next time disconnect neg cable. the voltage spike from connecting the battery popped the needle over. its pretty easy to remove the dash cluster, remove the cluster and remove the cover over the gauges and push the needle back, then reassemble. **ive been there and done that** hope this helps
