1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

what would cause the car to overheat it says put water and i do i have no leak could the thermostat push the water back out through the coolant tank or stop the water from cooling my motor

Does your radiator cooling ever come on when it's boiling water out of the coolant cap?Also when you car warms up is your upper and lower radiator hoses both hot?When it's boiling over doe sit show it's over heating on your gauge?You could also have a bad coolant cap not holding pressure and that's what is causing you to loose coolant from the cap.
