When I attempted to start the car this morning there was a grinding noise from the starter. I went to start it again once I got to work and it started with the grind, but there was a winding noise after the engine turned over.

I shut it off and tried again to a short grind, then clunk. I tried again and got the clunk.

I'm assuming its the starter, but is there anything else that I should check?

Hi:
It sounds like the starter is bad. I recommend removing it and having it bench tested at your local parts store to confirm the starter is bad.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
