1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass ticking

There is a ticking sound, but it is not a lifter. It sounds electrical. I pulled off plug wires one-by-one, unhooked mass airflow sensor, pulled out EGR valve and each time engine would stall. Check engine lite is on. Do you have any ideas?

First step is to take it to the local repair shop or auto parts store and have them pull the code from the check engine light. Most places will do this at no charge. The indicated problem may solve your ticking.
