1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Is Tranny Goner!

Was driving and made a turn and hit gas peddle. Then heard loud cluck and was like stuck between gears and had no acceleration and was leeking a lot of transmission fluid. Coasted about half block to a parkin lot. Poped hood some smoke or steam came out. Took it in to mechanic they told me I need to get a new transmission. They have screwed me over before but have to go to them for work. Do you think its that bad?

Hi there,

Why do you have to use a mechanic you don't trust? Anyway, this problem may be terminal, loss of trans fluid will be either a cracked casing(terminal) or a drive shaft dismounted, the noise is a worry and no drive, can you ask for a bit more of a diagnosis than its had it! This would be a big help.
