Loud Whine

Noise problem 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 196000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
So whenever i turn my car on there is a very loud whining coming from the engine near the water pump. The add coolant light is on, i added fluid and the light remains on. What is the loud whining that I am hearing?

Hello,

It could be Tensioner Pulley, to test have can of wd40 or similar, before starting vehicle spray center of pulley, start vehicle if whining stops replace pulley.

Turn Vehicle off

If whine is still there feel the center nut on the Alternator be careful it maybe very hot. If it is and vehicle only ran for a minute or 2 then spray the best you can behind the pulley of the alternator. Start vehicle if whine is gone replace alternator(bearings going bad).
