1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass ATF in engine oil

ATF is finding its way into Engine Oil, to the tune of several Quarts. How can this happen. Can smell the ATF in the Oil, and the ATF is low about as much as the Engine Oil is over full.

Hi:
The only thing I can thin of is if the trans has modulator on the side of it that runs on vacuum. If the diaphram goes bad, it could suck ATF into the system that way, but I would think it would burn it. That is why I aske if it was burning oil.

Check for that and let me know what you find.
