1987 Oldsmobile Ciera Stickying seat belt retractor

1987 Oldsmobile Ciera 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My girlfriend has a 1987 Olds Cutlass Ceria Broughm and the drivers seat belt retractor sticks either when she pulls it out or let it retract.
I took off the paneling and exposed the retractor mechanisim. I took a small screw driver to release the seat belt either from when it is retracted or the seat belt won't retract. It iworks for a couple of days and the problem starts over.

Any time a seatbelt has issues like that it should be replaced.It is a safety item and if not working properly could cause someone to be hurt in the event of an accident
