my vehicle gives me a message that my battery is not charging and after I stopped it it wouldn't start, I had to boost it and it held the charge until I left it off overnight

Suspect faulty battery. Remove battery and have it tested. If tests OK off of vehicle, have it load tested. If battery is OK, test alternator.
