2001 Oldsmobile Aurora alternator problems

we have 2001 olds aurora- we replaced the alternator and two days later it went out again with no other apparent symptoms.I heard of some problems now with this car and alternators going out regularly. Dont want to just keep replacing @$500 a pop. any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, it has the 4.0 v-8

The alternator on my '02 Aurora was replaced at 24K, has 62k now, with no problems. Good Luck!
